Motorola Shadow Passes Through WiFi Alliance

Posted by admin under News on Friday Apr 30, 2010

It’s been a long time since the Motorola Shadow came onto anyone’s radar. Well, at least a few months, but now it seems to be back, better than ever. If a recent report coming out of the WiFi Alliance is to be read correctly, then it looks like the Motorola MB810 might be the codenamed Shadow, which might mean it’ll see another name change before it hits shelves some time in the near future.

The Motorola Shadow was one of the devices named to be the Google Nexus Two, and for good reason. It’s supposedly rocking a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen, 8MP camera on the back, a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and now Android 2.2 (Froyo). Additionally, it’ll support MicroSD up to 32GB and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n.

While some think this bad boy will show up on Verizon when it supposedly launches some time during the second quarter of 2010, others think it’s a GSM-based device. Well, that’s a 50/50 shot there, so we’ll hold our breath. But, considering the Google Nexus One isn’t doing too hot in the whole CDMA realm of things, we’re going to put our hats in the GSM pot for now. We’ll pass on more as soon as it develops.

Created by Matthew Seibert, the iPod TiMPO features the same iPhone OS interface, a couple of front buttons, a Home button, a capacitive touchscreen display and wireless earbuds.

The wristband of this iPod watchphone is really cool and we’re really curious how this concept managed to escape the iPhone branding. I’d see a generation of kids wearing these devices around their wrists, with the advantage of the handset incorporating a microSD card slot. Let’s see if this becomes a real product in 10 years…

DRY-ALL’s Wet Cellular Phone Emergency KitIf you’ve known the horror of accidentally dunking your phone in something splashy (and trust me, I have, as well), then I have what may be the most reassuring invention ever made by man. According to IntoMobile, it’s the Wet Cellular Phone Emergency Kit, made by the aptly named DRY-ALL, and they say it can get rid of any water in the phone in 48 hours.

Basically, it seems that what you do, after the normal ritual of yanking the battery out, and swearing, is open the bag, stick the sopping wet phone in it, seal the bag back up, and leave it the hell alone while it does its thing. I’ve no idea how it works, so I’m going to say (since it doesn’t look like silica gel) cat litter.

So, yes, this could be a real handy thing to have around if the worst ever happens. Although I’d bet any money this is only available in America, which’d be just my luck, really. But then, I should be fine, anyway; now I’ve got the HTC HD2, I’m being reaaaaaaaaaaaally careful with it.

Of course, I was careful when I got my P800 and my P900, all those moons ago, and I ended up claiming on the insurance for those THREE times, due to the fact I am a massive, clumsy tool.

Still, fingers crossed, eh?
