Nokia is joining forces with Pepsi to launch the Ovi store football channel as its customers gear up to enjoy a summer of football.

Nokia say the Ovi store football channel will be the “ultimate football fan destination” throughout 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

Free apps include LiveMobile Football 2010, ESPN Soccernet and Goal.com, the apps will offer breaking football news, match previews and recaps from around the world.

Gamers can get stuck into Real Football 2010 and Real Football Manager 2010, as wells as the latest football games from EA SPORTS.

Pepsi’s charity football anthem “Oh Africa” will also be on sale in the Ovi Music Store as part of its 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa campaign. The song is performed by Akon, Keri Hilson, the Soweto Gospel Choir and 16 young people from around the world.

The football channel will be available on a range of Nokia phones from the X6 to the soon-to-be-released N8.

Marco Argenti, VP and Global Head of Media at Nokia, said: “The Ovi Store football promotion offers passionate football fans instant access to news, apps, games and a growing selection of personalisation content from some of the world’s top teams.”

Rogers Set to Launch Embedded Social View App Along With 3 New Plans

Posted by admin under News on Thursday Feb 18, 2010

Are you a Social Addict? How about a Socialite? If you are (not that we know what those are, per se), then you may want to head up to Canada (if you’re not already there), and check out the new plans that Rogers is apparently cooking up. Along with a new, embedded Rogers-based application called Social View, it seems that the Canadian wireless carrier is jumping on the whole social network bandwagon. And they’re doing it in a big way.

Go big or go home is apparently Roger’s new mantra. The wireless carrier is set to launch Social View, which is a built-in Rogers application that’s meant to aggregate the content from all of your favorite social networking sites. Well, maybe not all of them, but the biggest ones at least. Pulling feeds from Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace, along with the most recent content from text messages, phone calls, and Instant Messages from your contacts, is all done in real-time, and brought to your attention right on your homescreen.

It’s a built-in application, but there’s no word on which handsets it will be on. Our bet is Android-based handsets, even if HTC’s already implemented the same feature, called FriendStream. Either way, it’s Roger’s own thing, so we’re sure they’ll be happy to implement it on any device they want. In addition to the app, Rogers will introduce three new plans to go along with it: “Unlimited Social Addict Plan,” “Unlimited Socialite Plan,” and finally the “Unlimited Social Master Plan.” There’s no telling what differentiates any of the plans, but hopefully we’ll get a clearer picture here soon.

Black HTC Desire Available Early Next Week from Orange

Posted by admin under News on Friday Feb 12, 2010

If you are waiting for the Black HTC Desire from Orange UK this week, Android Community was told that it should be arrived early next week. The HTC Desire is now available in brown color. Another silver version was spotted previously but no carrier has announced the Desire with silver housing yet.

Other than the upcoming black edition, the Desire has also got rooted by Paul @ Modaco this week. The root hacking will allow you to install custom ROM, though, the rooting procedure for HTC Desire is not quite straight forward and you will have to bear your own risk of bricking the phone. Real iPhone 4G Prototype Lost in US Bar, Confirmed by Apple

Posted by admin under Mobile Concept on Wednesday Feb 10, 2010

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.If you’ve been living under a rock over the past week, you might not be familiar with the fact that an Apple employee, named Gray Powell. He had a couple of beers in the Gourmet Haus Staudt pub, in Redwood City and forgot his iPhone 4G prototype in the bar. The unit was found by a mystery person, hidden inside an iPhone 3GS case and handed over to Gizmodo, for $5000.

What followed is the logical tear down of the device, plus its analysis and tons of photos and videos shown by Gizmodo. Next, came a letter from Apple, requesting the unit back. What you should know about the real iPhone 4G prototype is that it comes with a flattened design, looking very much like some previous iPhone concepts you’ve seen on our site.

Also, the supposed iPhone HD comes with a front-facing videochat camera, an improved camera at the back (it has a bigger lens than the one on the 3GS), a camera flash, a micro SIM slot and an improved display. The latter is a tad smaller, but apparently its resolution is better, although this has yet to be proved.

The phone ran iPhone OS 4.0, but somehow, Apple managed to remotely kill the unit, after finding out that it has leaked. We also have to mention that the iPhone 4G prototype features a secondary mic for noise cancellation, placed at the top, next to the headphone jack. The volume buttons are now split and they, together with the power and mute buttons are all metallic.

The back of the handset is entirely flat, as you can see and we’re guessing it’s made of glass/ceramic or maybe shiny plastic, in order to allow the signal to get the max reception. There’s an aluminum border going around the outside of the phone and we have to mention that the unit is 3 grams heavier and its battery is 16% larger than the one of the 3GS.

Gizmodo’s dissection of the handset showed that the battery takes about 50% of the entire case space and the components inside are very tiny and fit perfectly in their place, so there’s no room for extras. No info on the processor or the main board, as it was sealed by Apple and tearing that part open would have damaged the handset.

Don’t forget to have a look at the video at the end of the article, in order to see the handset live and find out some of its features. What would you have done differently, as far as the design of the prototype is concerned?
